Prof. Dr Dr Patrick Bach, head of the Neuroenhancement working group at the Central Institute of Mental Health (ZI) and scientist at TRR265, has been awarded the prestigious research prize of the Association for Neuropsychopharmacology and Pharmacopsychiatry (AGNP).
He was honoured for the ICONIC study he led, which provided promising findings on the treatment of alcohol dependence with cannabidiol (CBD). The results show that CBD can significantly reduce the craving for alcohol and at the same time dampen the activation of the reward system in response to alcohol-specific stimuli - a promising approach for future pharmacological therapies.
The AGNP prize, which is awarded every two years, is endowed with 5,000 euros and honours outstanding scientific achievements in the field of neuropsychopharmacology. The study was funded by the Hetzler Foundation and published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry.
We would like to congratulate Patrick Bach on this well-deserved award!
